Valentine’s Day is almost here, and with it, we’ll see endless red roses, plush teddy bears and heart shaped chocolates in stores to buy for our adored sweethearts. But, if you want to do something a little different for a Valentine’s Day present, something a little more heartfelt and personalised, I’ve got just the idea for you.
Valentine’s day is all about being sweet and showing your partner/lover/date/wife/husband etc how much you love them, so what is sweeter than a personalised dessert bar just for them?
Instead of buying the cliché chocolates, think about some of his or her favourite desserts and then instead of making dinner, lay out a table, almost like a buffet bar of sweet treats that might include things that you’ve baked and smaller goods that you can buy in the shops.
For example, if you were making the dessert bar for me, there might be things that you’ve baked like sticky date pudding, vanilla cupcakes with sprinkles and buttercream icing, chocolate covered strawberries and gooey molten chocolate pudding. Then as extras, there would be Cadbury Mini Eggs Easter eggs, some Milka chocolate and some Tim Tams or Oreos. You could even go a step further and order a personalised block of chocolate from Chocolab, like the one I received for Christmas. Yum!
This present is bound to get you some brownie points for thinking about what he or she likes and going to the effort to create something that is just for them. Also, who doesn’t love dessert?
Just a tip, since you will be having more than one dessert on the table, baking your treats in mini sizes will make their presentation cuter and it will be easier to try a few different things and store the leftovers for later.
Speaking of presentation, how do you lay out a delicious dessert buffet? On beautiful, Pinterest-worthy cake stands and plates and in lovely, glass jars for the store bought extras. You could even fill a jar with fairy floss just because it looks pretty. Don’t worry, I’ve added some Pinterest pictures, but you can see the rest and some recipe ideas on my board here. Add some candles and you’re guaranteed an awesome dinner.
Keep a look out for my Tim Tam Bark and Deep Fried Oreos which will be up on the blog soon!
dreaming, loving, living xx
